Hi MaCie ! Those are great and thoughtful questions, and I appreciate the link to Thrive Indianapolis. We will check it out. *Would you require the personal assistant have some sort of training or certification? Our personal assistants are contract employees and are required to be caregivers in some form or fashion. Our personal assistance comes from all sectors, including nursing, teaching, or public service. Many have work or personal experiences which qualify them to be a Personal Assistant. Our process for onboarding is dual interviews, background check, and then they must receive positive reviews from established Clients who are anonymously working to assess the Personal Assistants and let us know if they make the cut. The law is very clear with contract employees; you cannot require someone to take or attend classes - however, their skill set can be evaluated at the time of onboarding. Additionally, we can encourage Personal Assistants to attend seminars or programs - but we cannot require it.
*How successful would you say your platform is in Michigan? We are a Start-Up company, and we have worked tirelessly to figure success out. There have been a lot of walls and bumps in the road. It has not been easy. To our credit, we have not given up, and we have surrounded Kboose with an excellent support team - Advisers who help us evaluate experiences and navigate the path of the business. With all of that said, in 2019 we have seen a 1,300 % growth in the amount of time our Clients are using, and a 230% increase in the number of clients we are serving.
We know this is not even close to where we need to be a business, but it tells us we are doing something right. If you couple that with the Client's feedback and reviews
"They are all so nice! I've met four of their Personal Assistants, and each one just makes my day," said Karen Warren, a disabled senior with leg braces. "I don't know how I could stay in my home and live independently without them."
"Kboose has been a life-saver this year - Thank You for Kboose, and your care for Isaac!"
Lavone Zwart Schaarsma, Parent.
"Kboose is timely, trustworthy, and caring. Every time we've called to make arrangements for Personal Assistance, Kboose has made room for us in their schedule, and their reasonable fees are nowhere near the cost of the medical transportation we had been using..." Sharon Pettigrew, Client Daughter
We believe Kboose is on a path to success.
*Would your fee be on a sliding scale to make your platform affordable for all Hoosiers? We have worked very hard to develop a price point, which makes our service affordable and allow us to maintain the business. We also offer invoicing options which would enable some individuals to use the service and pay later. With that said, our experience is there will always be people who need services who cannot afford them. We have given charity services when we have encountered this, and we are in the process of fundraising and developing a fund through joint fundraising efforts to create a trust account we could tap into when a Michigander or a Hoosier needs a hand-up.
Hi Lisa, my name is Annie I'm from Grand Rapids Michigan. I participated in the challenge last year. I saw your post, and I'm wondering if transportation for Down syndrome is just difficult in Indianapolis or if this is something that's all over our country?
Hi Mindy, congratulations to you. I think I've seen you in the Miami and Grand Rapids finals. I haven't had a chance to look at your proposal yet but it looks like you're an insurance company, yes? We are a transportation company that's been piloting for 2 years in the Grand Rapids area and had lots of successes, and even a few failures. I've been looking at all the finalists tonight and there is some amazing ideas out there, it's good to be part of this group.
