New hires in entry-level positions often find themselves in need of a commuter car to fulfill job obligations despite not having yet earned enough income to purchase one.


Solution:

A 90-day program providing transitional transit services as new entry-level workers prepare for responsible car ownership.

- Public-private partnerships offer a pool of transportation assets from which an employer and employee can negotiate the optimal commute (e.g. a mix of bus/Uber/bikeshare/employer-managed vanpool services) along unfamiliar or frequently-changing job sites

- Known mobility options between employer and employee create a robust and empathetic environment for situations when one form of transit fails

- Banks offer financial literacy tools to aid employee in preparation for car purchase

This prototype was developed by the Bennett team from Pittsburgh's Mobiliti co-design workshop. The team includes James, Ron, Sarah and Lauren -- a cross-functional group of transit technologists, local residents, employers and civil leaders who worked through a human-centered design process over the course of two days to create this prototype. These teammates are accessible by email and can provide further detail on the concept.

High-touch pilot consisting of 15-20 construction workers from the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh and employers who will work with TIP and PNC Bank to create the program. A successful program can be expanded to other sectors.

Increase in employee retention, attendance, employee financial stability
