WayLess would use standard GPS tracking and user data to compare travel time and cost for various methods of transportation vs conventional travel. WayLess would use average MPG and Toll Cost as a comparison to public transportation fares. WayLess would also be home to a TripPlanner designed to create a seamless public transportation experience that can link bus and rail routes and decrease average wait times. The app will also display final bike and walking distance to selected destinations and inform users of closest bike share station. This solution will become a one-stop application for public transportation needs and will have a user-friendly UI.

Describe who will use your solution (1,000 characters)

This app solution could be used by anyone with a smartphone or tablet at bus stops, airports, rail stations, bus terminals, beaches, malls etc...

Describe your solution's stage of development

  • Initial Design - you are still exploring the idea and have not tested it with users

Size of your team or organization

  • I am submitting as an individual

Funding Request

  • $75,000

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

A portion of the challenge funding would be used to hire app developers and purchase a hosting server that would allow unaffected large-scale user usage. The remainder will be used to develop a marketing plan that will be deployed in airports, rail stations and physically on public transportation as well as a social media campaign to target younger riders. This solution will be sustainable after its initial pilot program due to various streams of advertising income that could come with increased APP usage. Funds from advertising will be used to hire IT professionals and contract developers to ensure we offer necessary APP updates and consumer help.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

The success of the pilot will be measured by app store downloads, public transportation rider usage stats and, community engagement.
