"Paces to Pennies" - The App

Let's create a new app where people can get paid for walking in and around the public.

This is more of an elaborative post someone else posted, but I am expanded on it through my perspective on seeing the app. But, this would encourage more people who aren't as active to be more active and people who ride buses can get some assistance (financially) to even barefooters, runners, and joggers to get paid for doing something they are common and fine with doing.

Describe who will use your solution (1,000 characters)

This would help encourage more people who aren't as active to be more active and people who ride buses can get some assistance (financially) to even barefooters, runners, and joggers to get paid for doing something they are common and fine with doing. The app's title, "Paces to Pennies", implements that people would be earning a penny a step. The average number of daily steps people take (in a day) can be around 5000 to 7000 steps, which means the average person can earn $50-70 just by walking. From there, the steps can be generated into PayPal cash every 6pm (ET) since PayPal rules (for those who have a PayPal) states that any amount past 7pm (ET) will be transferred to their bank account the day after tomorrow instead of tomorrow. For those who do not have a bank account and/or PayPal, then you can allow the money they earned and turn it into egift cards for them to print and use in stores, which saves money from mailing a gift card to the rightful person.

Describe your solution's stage of development

  • Initial Design - you are still exploring the idea and have not tested it with users
  • Pilot - you have implemented your solution in a real-world scenario

Tell us about your team or organization (500 characters)

I do not have a team created or an organization that helped me think of this idea. I thought about this idea/app (along with different variations of this app for different types of people like for Pokemon players (slightly different from Pokemon GO), barefooters (different pay rates for different places), and even joggers) for many months before I knew about the COTC and never knew how to operate further from there, to be honest. This also explains why I am submitting this idea as an individual.

Size of your team or organization

  • I am submitting as an individual

Funding Request

  • $75,000

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

The first thing to piloting this idea would be to learn how to create apps that are dedicated to this type of program and service. It can range from taking days to a few months based on one's experience, but it can be done since there are many different types for many different situations.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

The success of this pilot would be based on how many are willing to test this app, along with variations of this app, to make things better and easier for people to financially manage and even help others in need as well. This is, and can, also determined by how many are also willing to be more active when outside or in public to show that you are earning what you actually step.

Zachary Kirkendoll - I would like for you to check out my explanation to my idea of "Paces to Pennies" as a way to elaborate your app idea; I had several app ideas like yours as ways for people to get paid for doing something we do daily.

I like it, the amount of an actual penny given per step to each user seems a little much when put into the perspective of whoever is giving the pennies but I do like it and think it can be done. If you haven't already seen, Aaron Soth-Evans has a similar idea to the both of ours that seems much further along. Check it out and let me know what you think of it, I'm interested.

Zachary Kirkendoll - Nice and thanks that you like the idea. Well, I chose a penny a step because a penny can go a long way more than what one can imagine...also it sounds catchy to say "Paces to Pennies". Anyways, I think it can be a suitable way to improve the walking and traffic since some would want to walk more than drive and earn what they step.

From one article by VeryWellFit:
"Studies found that the average American adult only makes it about halfway to a goal of 10,000 steps per day, although those who wear an activity monitor or pedometer seem to log more steps per day. If you walk between 5,000 and 7,000 steps per day, you are an average American."

Since "If you walk between 5,000 and 7,000 steps per day, you are an average American." based on the article, then that means you can earn (5000 steps * 1 penny per step) to (7000 steps * 1 penny per step), which is a range of $50-70 daily if not more based on how much they are willing to walk.

I never saw his post, but I will definitely check it out shortly and see this process on this idea; thanks for letting me know.

Aaron Soth-Evans - You're free to give your thoughts on my proposal if you want.

I agree with that 100%. A penny can go a long way and it would definitely help greatly to provide reasonable compensation to reduce the carbon emission/traffic problems. people just need a push and a penny per step is a good push. However there are a lot of people like myself who walk 20,000 to 30,000 on a good day and it would be a little difficult to find the money to pay everyone that amount per day. Plus there are people who walk for exercise everyday who do much larger numbers than that.
I'm not downing the idea at all, in fact I would love to be apart of something like this to get it going and working all over the world, but as much as money is disposable and always in rotation, people don't like to give it away so there would have to be a large amount of funding available to get the idea going. It's sad that money is in the way of saving the world due to our own detrimental habits but it's real.
So how can we make it so everyone can get paid at that amount and have a steady income for the app to generate revenue to give back to the users??

Zachary Kirkendoll - Good that you agree with me on the penny can go a long way and longer than people really imagine despite the penny is only 1 cent...even though some places and a 1/2 penny coin, but that's a whole different topic by itself. Anyways, there should be more ways and opportunities for people to freelance and be given compensation for doing things we commonly do while using the compensation for what they see fit to find ways to improve the problems in the city/town or in their area or even in their house.

Good that you see a penny per step is a good push. Well, 20000 steps times 1 penny/step means $200 while 30000 steps times 1 penny/step means $300 for those can walk on a good, general day for them. They can be true in finding ways to pay everyone who would use the app, but I was thinking about finding a way to possible financial/cash generator for those who want to do PayPal options while making it an idea on having it more dedicated to a points system first then letting the redeemable like YouGov or Swagbucks or PrizeRebel and you have the redemption page similar to what you want as your reward for your hard work of walking and traveling.

When not some people who have disposable money and not willing to it away or giving it away so easily, then they should learn they should freely give it since if they were financially in need and was given the help they wanted, then they should freely do the same financial help when they see others in need instead of ignoring them. I know I am saying it from a biblical perspective, but I am saying it as the truth since people should always lend a helping hand when others in need since you would like the same help for when they were in need of something.
