The majority of traffic in South Florida is experienced Monday through Friday between 7am and 9am and 5pm and 7pm. This is because most work schedules are fixed between those hours and most vehicles are on the road at the same time during those hours. We will partner with local governments, companies, organizations, employees and residents to promote and implement working remotely, alternative work hours, work schedules and work days. This will reduce the peak traffic by up to 30% over time, reduce stress, reduce time spent on the road, improve the quality of life of Miami Dade residents, while creating a more livable and pleasant county.

The majority of employees in Miami Dade work desk jobs. Because of modern internet and phone technology these jobs can easily allow some remote working days, alternative work hours, work schedules and work days to reduce time spent commuting, reduce stress, improve productivity, improve quality of life while reducing overall peak traffic in Miami. Our simple and effective solutions will be easily implemented thought Miami Dade and will spread throughout the rest of the country. All of the best organizations and companies to work for in the United States and the world already use some if not all of our proposed solutions. It's about time we get with the program in Miami Dade. Companies and organizations in Miami Dade that can implement our solutions don’t implement them because of lack of awareness. We are going to change that by increasing awareness and starting the conversations between employees, companies and organizations. The funding provided by this challenge is more than sufficient to support this never before seen county wide campaign and spark the change.

We will pilot our idea by partnering with local city and county governments, organizations, companies, and Transportation agencies  to develop an integrated transportation stud to better comprehend the current traffic problem, how our solutions will improve the traffic problem and an action plan to inform the public about our solutions to reduce time commuting, reduce stress, improve productivity, improve quality of life while reducing peak traffic. Then we will create eye catching media content to promote our ideas and spread our solutions via social media, news, and events so residents of Miami Dade can begin the conversation with their organizations and employers to implement our solutions via organization, company and government policy . This will have a Domino effect and we will measure the positive impact over time. Once local governments, companies and organizations see the positive impact of our solutions they will continue to fund our initiative to continue to improve the live of Miami Dade residents.

Our team is made up of a transportation engineer with 5 years experience in transportation studies, design and planning, a civil engineering masters student from the University of Miami and recipient of the Ford education scholarship and Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship, a media expert that will create the promotional content for our idea like website, pictures, videos and flyers and a marketing expert that will maximize the number of South Florida residents, companies and organizations which are informed about our practical and effective solutions through social media, news and events to reduce traffic, stress, time wasted on the road and improve the quality of life of South Florida residents.

First we will ask the companies and organizations we work with if they currently allow remote working, alternative work hours, work schedules, and work days and how they feel about their current commutes and work schedules. Then we will ask them and their employees 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years after exposing them to our solutions if they have implemented any remote working, alternative work hours, work schedules, or work days and how the currently feel about their work commute and quality of life and track these changes. We will also track traffic patterns in several key Miami Dade locations and with organizations and companies that implement our solutions at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years after starting our campaign to measure changes in traffic flow and impact of our solutions.

The Board of County Commissioners recently passed a resolution to explore the viability of building telecommuting centers for County workers to reduce congestion. The report will also explore the overall benefits and impacts of telecommuting. Here's a link to the item: https://bit.ly/2MJhexQ
