Dispatching software that manages several or more vehicles often costs tens of thousands of dollars a year. For many smaller transit companies and hopeful entrepreneurs, this high cost is a barrier to starting or expanding a business. Dispatch Bot is the solution that offers businesses the tools to gather passenger information, schedule optimally, perform trips on time, track vehicles, review reports, and invoice.
For this challenge, it is Dispatch Bot's mission to address mobility of care for vulnerable populations in the peripheral areas of Mexico City by providing new and existing transit providers the software necessary to cater to their needs.
We propose offering our service for free to the providers of Mexico City during the pilot period. We wish to add features to our existing software such as a General Transit Feed Specification, or GTFS, to make available to any potential passenger the trips a provider who is using DispatchBot offers.
We also propose an alert button within the passenger and driver app to report assault or medical emergencies. Real time tracking of drivers will allow emergency services to locate and provide aid.
Mobility in Neighborhood & Certainty and accessibility:
Transit providers who use Dispatch Bot typically operate a wide range of vehicle types, including high capacity vehicles which are less accident prone and can be used to perform multiple trips along a route Including the small stops along the route.
Dispatch Bot allows for efficiency for both the transit company and the passenger in several ways within Neighborhoods:
- Trip Planning - Passengers can call the provider in advance or use the mobile app, ShuttleBot, to make a trip request that includes requested pick up or drop off time and any considerations for mobility aids or extra passengers like children. The transit provider knows in advance what accommodations to make for the passenger.
- Shared Rides - Not only can people travel in groups in larger capacity vehicles, but also several trips can occur on one vehicle much like a bus system. Mothers traveling with children, nurses traveling with patients, family traveling with their elders: all groups benefit from a service like DispatchBot that aids transit companies in organizing efficient, optimal shared rides at a low cost.
- Familiarity - Local trips to the doctor or errands are often reoccurring. Familiarity between the driver and the passenger creates a bonding sense of community and also aid in a perceived and real sense of security. Also, drivers who know their riders can also tell when something is not right and can alert necessary family or institutions.
Prevention and Care of Sexual Violence:
Safety and efficiency work together within Dispatch Bot to ensure passengers are secure and transportation provides are equipped with the information needed to aid their passengers whenever the need should arise.
We propose adding to our current software a feature which allows drivers and passengers with their respective mobile applications to report emergencies such as assault or medical emergency needs at the click of a button.
Real time tracking of vehicles will allow the location of the vehicle to be known for expedited help.
Also, the General Transit Feed Specification, GTFS, will allow the passenger to track where their driver is in real time through apps like Google Maps / Google Transit allowing passengers to avoid unnecessary waits.
Does your project seek to improve the mobility of people living in peripheral areas of Mexico City?
DispatchBot is the affordable software solution transit providers need to schedule, route, perform, and track trips safely and optimally.
The low cost of the service provides transit providers an opportunity for entrepreneurs to start a transit business and for existing transit providers to expand their services and offer their services at competitive prices.
By offering the service free during the pilot period, we offer local transit companies within CDMX the opportunity invest in the peripheral markets of the metropolitan area where a large number of vulnerable populations require transit solutions.
Does your pilot project solve a specific need for at Least One of the following priority groups: women, People with disabilities, older adults, girls and boys?
DispatchBot allows these new and existing providers the tools required to take detailed information about their passengers and provide comfortable, catered service to their needs.
For passengers with recurring medical appointments or errands, DispatchBot offers subscriptions. For all vulnerable populations, DispatchBot supports detailed information collection to ensure the vehicle is equipped with the capacity and any mobility aid needed to support the passenger.
Does your pilot project Demonstrate knowledge of the times and requirements for its implementation, as well as the possible obstacles and a plan to Overcome them in a period not Exceeding six months?
DispatchBot's core services: AutoScheduler, BillerBot, ShuttleBot, DispatchBot Driver App are all currently working.
We will need to implement a General Transit Feed Specification for the software that will publish route data for consumption of any transit app like Google maps. This feature will place companies who use Dispatch Bot as an option for transit within Google Maps, thereby giving passengers more options to get the care they need.
ShuttleBot will be enhanced. Currently, ShuttleBot- which is free for the passenger- allows the passenger to book a trip with a specific provider and offer all needs for the trip in the request. We would like to add an emergency button to the application.
Does your project Have the Necessary Characteristics to be Implemented with a maximum resource of 2 million pesos?
It is. Our project would use the full funding amount to support operational costs, training and launch of service during the six month period.
Can your pilot project be Implemented in the current context of Mexico City and With the current Characteristics of the transport network?
DispatchBot can affordably be used with existing transit providers including Luxury buses, minibuses, and even bicytaxis. The free offer during pilot period will incentivize new business growth in this area and encourage expansion due to savings. Also, GTFS will offer advertising from the provider to the passenger through applications such as Google Maps / Google Transit which raises demand.
Does your project Demonstrate knowledge of the Characteristics, needs and problems of the area and population group for ITS Which implementation is planned and Adapted to the Local context?
Vulnerable populations in peripheral areas within Mexico City are in need of transit which comes from a recognizable brand, offers comfort and reliability, is affordable, and can cater to their needs such as the use of mobility aids like wheel chairs.
DispatchBot offers transit providers the tools necessary to accomplish these goals through familiarity, low costs to invest in higher capacity vehicles and expand to manage larger fleets, and detailed passenger information records.
Does your project include a scalable and replicable plan that facilitates that it can be implemented in other areas of the city or that it can expand in the same area?
DispatchBot currently operates all across the USA and has been the software of choice for transit fleets of up to 70 vehicles in some of the largest cities such as Seattle, Washington.
Does the solution have a financial model and / or show a path to a revenue stream that could sustain it after the end of the pilot phase?
DispatchBot has been in operation for over ten years and in that time has helped thousands of companies increase their dispatching efficiency and run their transit operation at one of the industries lowest price points.
After the pilot phase has ended, the companies using Dispatch Bot will be offered to continue use of the service for a small monthly per vehicle charge. The tools Dispatch Bot offers these companies to command large fleets and provide deserved and needed care for vulnerable populations.
