Oh Snap! A Modular Bus Platform for the Indygo Paratransit system

The users of Indygo paratransit system need to be able to rely on having accessible bus stops for their trips to the hospital.

Accessibility is fundamental to urban life. Typically, the solution to accessibility issues at city streets has been to invest in costly public works. Vectorial® system allows cities to quickly transform the urban space and improve accessibility without permanently compromising the use of public space with a very low cost. 

Vectorial® system allows rapid transformation of urban space through the construction of quick-build street configurations. For example, it allows to improve accessibility to the buses at bus stops

Indygo Paratransit system's users will have an accessible bus stop without the need of construction works. A 40' (L) x 8' (W) bus boarder can be easily installed in 5 hours.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

Many cities across the US have installed a Vectorial system bus boarder. The feedback has been very positive, due to reduced boarding times and accessibility improvements at bus stops.

Tell us about your team or organization (500 characters)

Since 2005, at ZICLA have been working to turn the waste generated by cities and their activities into new materials for industry and new products for the cities themselves. We design, develop and manufacture recycled products for cities. The way we work fits perfectly into the circular economy, as we focus on the resource cycle and follow a model based on reusing, repairing, remanufacturing and recycling existing materials and products rather than using raw or virgin materials.

Rough Budget (500 characters)

USD 24,081 for the 40' (L) x 8' (W) Vectorial system platform USD 6,294 for the shipping of the materials ZICLA will provide the city of Indianapolis with the presence of one of ZICLA's technicians to assist during the installation phase + the anchoring system at no cost. The remaining funds will be used to provide the city with more pieces to enlarge the bus boarder or create an additional one. Our offer does not include the installation costs.

At ZICLA we are very interested in testing the convenience of using the Vectorial system bus boarder for on-demand services like Indygo Paratransit system.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

We will base the analysis on the users' feedback during the implementation phase.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

The Vectorial system has a great resistance to extreme weather, impacts and loads. Therefore, the maintenance costs of the bus boarder will be minimal.

Hello Gorka, the first time I rode the redline a guy in a wheel chair's....wheel got stuck between the platform and the bus. He actually needed your idea. Some people helped him out, but it was a scary situation momentarily. The bus driver should've pulled closer to the platform too. Will these be made for individual use as well? They can assist with transporting passengers everywhere.
