Live parking guidance helps drivers find available spots in real-time, reducing traffic caused by drivers searching for parking. 

Automotus offers a bus loading zone management solution that monitors these high-traffic areas and alerts enforcement officers when they are blocked by unauthorized vehicles. Riders want to get to their destinations––when buses can enter and exit stops quickly and easily, they can get there on time.

Uber's & Lyft's presence continues to grow in Indianapolis, as does their impact. TNC monitoring captures data ranging from volume & turnover to curb non-compliance that will help the city understand the extent of ride-sharing companies’ impact locally and better regulate them going forward. Using data-driven policymaking will enable city administrators to designate optimal pick-up & drop-off locations, assess downtown entrance fees during times of high traffic, and more.

Multimodal transportation data covers every conceivable mode of transportation to provide administrators with analytics at a granular level to help them understand how to best allocate resources and adjust policies based on data from the field. Video analytics account for buses, cars, bikes, scooters, TNCs (Lyfts & Ubers), and pedestrians, measuring volume for each category while also collecting more nuanced data points such as parking turnover, spot occupancy, and compliance for passenger vehicles.

Curb non-compliance is a major drag on traffic and is difficult to enforce with limited resources. Camera-based enforcement can help to reduce non-compliance by automatically detecting violations for time-limited and digital pay-by-spot parking, then either alerting enforcement officials of violations or directly issuing a citation to the driver.

Automated pay-by-plate lets drivers skip the meter and automatically pay every time they park by simply linking their license plates to their payment information online (compatible with digital payment systems). This eliminates time spent by drivers paying for parking, prevents drivers from overpaying for parking, and increases turnover.

Transportation Administrators – view detailed analytics of all means of transportation to help guide resource allocation, pricing adjustments, and policy changes. Drivers – able to view real-time availability for parking in areas of dense traffic via way-finding apps and signs. Drivers – able to link their license plates to credit cards online and automatically pay whenever they park. Bus Drivers – view occupancy for bus loading zones to ensure space is available on a given street to reduce congestion. Parking Enforcement Officers – receive violation notifications via text, email or through an enforcement app, notifying them to cite non-compliant vehicles in areas of interest.

Having piloted our solutions, we've found that the combination of automated enforcement & live parking guidance greatly increases parking turnover along the curb (30%). Additionally, we've found integration with existing systems to be incredibly helpful in getting clients up and running quickly and without much education.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

Share live parking & bus loading zone availability with drivers online and through way-finding apps. Collect and share multimodal transportation data – TNCs (Ubers & Lyfts), buses, passenger vehicles, bikes, scooters, & pedestrians. Alert enforcement officers of violations to drive turnover. Automotus technology already provides all of these solutions and has dynamic APIs for relevant integrations, making financing the pilot and coordinating installation & integrations as the primary logistical concerns.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

Quantitative – Boost the flow of traffic and parking turnover KPI – reduction in drivers searching for parking (Measured by counting drivers that pass a vacant parking spot) KPI – reduce time spent in parking spots through enforcing non-compliance and guidance KPI – reduce parking violations that go un-cited KPI – measure live guidance usage via online traffic Qualitative – Survey transportation administrators to see how they used multimodal analytics to make decisions. Survey bus drivers to determine how guidance data affected their routes and additional data they'd appreciate having. Survey enforcement officers to see if and how violation notifications affected their jobs.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

Automotus services would be available beyond the duration of the pilot through a subscription model charged per camera. The city will generate greater revenue through higher parking occupancy and increased violations cited, more than offsetting the cost of our services. Additionally, transportation officials will see the insights gained from multimodal transportation data as critical, further justifying the investment to better understand how their transportation ecosystem is changing.
