NoTraffic’s AI platform combines state-of-the-art technology to autonomously optimize the traffic flow in RT. Based on advanced AI algorithms, the system automatically changes traffic lights to optimize flow while maintaining safety and public policy. Using human-eye level detection, NoTraffic understands all objects approaching the intersection.

The system then calculates and customizes signal service for each type of road-user, based on their individual needs, creating a two-way conversation between bikes, pedestrians, scooters and all other vehicle types to cut congestion and reduce accidents.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

In recent studies conducted using the NoTraffic platform, a 35% to 48% reduction in average per-vehicle delay were demonstrated. The study also showed a reduction in red-light violations, strong economic benefits (from reducing the costs of congestion and accidents), and a reduction of around 50 tons in CO2 emissions.

Over 80% of NoTraffic employees are R&D, comprised mainly of engineers, AI, computer vision and machine learning. Our advisory board which includes notable university faculty in traffic engineering such as Prof. Nathan Gartner who is the Inventor of the first algorithm for real-time optimization of signalized intersections, along with former members of the USDOT such as the prior deputy director, Victor Mendez. Business operations are headquartered in California.

A typical intersection deployment is priced at $25k. For pilot projects, we have some flexibility depending on strategy. In general, 4 intersections work well as this will allows us to demonstrate corridor and progression characteristics as well as individual intersection optimization for bikes and pedestrians on a manageable scale.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

NoTraffic would install equipment at 4 intersections, bringing them immediately up to smart-city level. The first two months of the pilot, our system would observe existing characteristics and create baseline data. The second two months, we would optimize signal operations based on city traffic policies (in this case likely vulnerable road user prioritization). At the conclusion of 4 months, data would be analyzed and performance measured.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

Working with the city, we would develop a set of KPIs that could include elements such as: - Improvement in intersection delay for bikes, pedestrians, scooters, etc (measured for each individual road-user, then aggregated) -Transit prioritization and correlated reduction in bus travel times on the corridor. -Improved multi-model level of service Reduction in near-misses. Reduction in collisions Reductions in vehicle emissions Economic benefit Other KPIs defined by the city or other project partners.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

The NoTraffic platform is immediately cost effective and reduces ITS costs by up to 59%. In addition to costing approximately half of the expense for other single-purpose ITS equipment (cell modems, RSUs, EVP, etc), we obviate the need for manual traffic counts, manual signal retiming, data analysis, data communication and storage, and performance evaluations. These are things most cities already spend substantial budgets to obtain and are all included in our software package.

To what affect does this system report speed or careless driving to police? Or is it only linked to the AI drivable vehicles?

Great question Robert P Tweed 
Our system does not track individuals or provide traffic enforcement. We do not record video. All machine vision is processed entirely on the edge and only the resulting optimization data is ever transmitted or saved. We do not detect license plates or otherwise provide any individually identifiable information.

Additionally, the platform does not depend on either connected or autonomous vehicles to function. We optimize existing traffic AND bridge the gap to future connected vehicles.
