When I have visited Grand Rapids we have either stayed in a hotel or with a friend. When we stayed at the hotel, we were in walking distance to restaurabts , bars, and parks. Transportation was not an issue. I was very impressed with the city the first time we went.

Hi Linda: I'm Tom, one of the facilitators on this discussion board. Thank you for telling your story. I'm glad you've enjoyed your visits to Grand Rapids. It sounds like you have experience walking around downtown. Can you tell us more? Can you describe any of your routes or destinations? How is GR's "walkability" compared to that of other cities?

I do remember we went to a restaurant for dinner and a bar for drinks and dancing afterwards. Although I do not remember the specific names, I remember multiple bars and restaurants all within very close walking distance. I have been to downtown Chicago numerous times as well as Miami. I can say that the only change I notice or remember was Grand Rapids did not have the shops like the other two do. Whether it be boutiques or souviener shops.

It's interesting that you had a positive walking experience, visiting several restaurants within walking distance, even though Grand Rapids doesn't have the same concentration of small shops as in Chicago or Miami.
