Our common goal is to improve the Michigan Central Station neighborhood. We offer the solution to create a 6D mobile society, improve the spatial, economic, social and personal mobility of the residents. We must help new businesses to settle down and reach the local community. Enable visitors to easily find their way around.

Our solution will improve connections between places and among people. Connect social groups and connect the local economy with the rest of the city and the state.

While developing the new subway system would improve the mobility in the community, it falls out of the budget of this call, so our goal is to better utilize existing resources and empower the private sector to run their current business and future business more efficiently.

Laying down the technological foundation that can be used by residents, visitors and local businesses to help resolve mobility issues will help create innovative, smart and connected neighborhood.

Nova Vector is proposing to create a smart connected neighborhood using uses modern, open-source and patent-free technologies like the Internet of Things, LoRaWAN, Blockchain, Machine Learning, and Real-Time communication to help spark the change and increase both personal, spatial and socio-economic mobility.

Relying on open source technologies that are tested and production-ready will enable local creativity to take an active part and steer the development of the community.

Nova Vector Smart City Platform is a modular and open-source platform that fully supports Open API standards.

How will your solution benefit residents, workers, or visitors in the Michigan Central Station impact area? (1,000 characters)

Jane is 37 years old, mother of two. She is living in the Michigan Central Station area. She has started a business in the area developing heated bus stops for the neighborhood. Thanks to the Nova Vector Smart City platform she can easily add connected sensors and automate heating control so that it is on only when persons are waiting for the bus. Mike is 73 years old; he is living in the Michigan Central Station area. He doesn’t own the smartphone and has difficulties walking. Sometimes needs help to get to the grocery store. When he is unable to get to the store he presses the LoRaWAN connected button and receives the phone call from the local grocery to arrange the food delivery. Aaron is 45, comes every day to the Michigan Central Station area for work. He would like to help the Michigan Central Station neighborhood prosper. He is checking the City Pulse to find the Events where he can participate and help clean the neighborhood.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

All the modules that will be used in this project are tested in the production, however, the full solution still needs some integration to be fully operational. Each of the modules has proved that it is functional and horizontally scalable using the Kubernetes platform. The end-user application is in the design phase and has to be developed and tested.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

Setup the backend server system. Then find 2 local businesses and help them onboard to the platform. Provide sensors, edge gateways, and application to the local business. Work with local businesses to improve application usability. Work with local businesses to increase the value the application provides to the business. Get to 100 local users and evaluate the mobile application. Work with users to better understand how they interact with the application. Work with users to better understand how they interact with IoT Buttons, sensors. Find 2 local Non-for-profit organizations and help onboard the application. Provide sensors, edge gateways, and application to the local organizations. Work with local organizations to improve application usability. Work with local organizations to increase the value the application provides to the organization. Hire local to help spread the app and help find 2 local businesses and non-profits to platform

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

We will create the KPI that will be tracked during the implementation and testing phase of the project. Those KPI will be used to improve features and applications during the project implementation and to evaluate the project success. After the pilot phase is finished we will conduct a survey and have users evaluate the mobile application. Survey if the businesses are seeing the benefits of using the platform and if non-for-profit can reach to the target audience easier than before.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

We can identify several revenue streams for the platform. The first is in-app advertisement where we will have several pricing categories for global companies, local companies, while Non-for-Profit will be able to apply for free of adds package. The second revenue stream will be revenue sharing for the services which are using the platform. The third revenue stream will be "Ready to Use" sensor kits for several business domains – Retail, Construction, Logistics.

Janko Isidorovic Thank you for sharing your solution! I am a Michigan Central Station Challenge facilitator. Your solution offers so many capabilities! I see that there are many modules that offer machine learning, advanced analytics, blockchain, etc. In addition, you have features such as City Pulse and My Communities. What features or modules would you focus on during the pilot phase? If a business were interested in developing a machine learning algorithm, for example, who would develop the algorithm? Would the business need to hire someone to collect the data and develop the algorithm? Or is that a service that you would be providing? Thank you! I look forward to hearing more!

Mackenzie Fankell thanks for your interest in our proposal. You are correct, Nova Vector Smart City solution is modular, and it offers many features like the internet of things (IoT), machine learning, advanced analytics, and blockchain. During the pilot phase, we would like to focus on two modules: IoT module, to connect sensors and gather the valuable data and City Pulse mobile and web applications, for the residents of Michigan Central Station neighborhood, workers and visitors.
Our City Pulse app will have two basic functions in the pilot phase. First is to present information derived from IoT data to users and to inspire users to create personal communities. City Pulse app will connect not only locals and local communities but also, local representatives and local businesses all to communicate with each other and better understand and embrace the change and possibilities of investments in the Michigan Central Station area.
All modules in the platform are open source and fully support Open API standard. This makes the second basic function possible! City Pulse app will enable local business to work with data sources on the platform. If the local business is not able to develop machine learning algorithms by themselves, Nova Vector will provide a service to create custom machine learning per business requirements. However, we can imagine that the platform can spark the creation of local consultants who will help local businesses use the Nova Vector smart City Platform for their benefit.
