Our solution provides a mobile friendly, simple and easy to access interface for residents and visitors to the Michigan central station to explore the available mobility options and make them less intimidating by providing additional information on how to use the chosen transport mode.

Our solution is a web application so it is cross-platform and not limited to the type of devices (Android or iOS). User can select the languages they prefer. The interface is designed with accessibility features for people have a disability to access. Residents and visitors can connect to the Central Station Wi-Fi to use this application.

Our solution allows for user access and administration access.  Administrators at the Central station or city officials can access the web application to indicate construction and road closures in the area, communicate news and events to the residents and visitors, or in emergency situation issue alerts.

Our solution provides alerts to the user when weather hazards, public alerts, road closures, accidents and congestions occur around the Central Station, when the application detects the user location is in the proximity of the area.

Users can access news (e.g. renovation updates) about Central Station easily on our web application.

Our solution also allows the users to see current and future exciting events happening at the Central Station.

A major feature on our web application is the Transportation options. It is a map interface with simple icons that represent the real time location of the transportation mode (bus, streetcar) and current road hazard (congestion, road closure etc.).

Users can select their origin and destination on the map. The map will display users with road hazards (construction, road closures etc.) that are nearby and the routing will detour to avoid the hazards.

Transportation options (walking, biking, train, bus, streetcar) can then be selected to determine the expected length of time until arrival.

Additional information on how to use the chosen transportation method (e.g. how to pay fare) are also provided to the user in simple graphics.

Travel times are calculated from bus GPS, streetcar GPS, train schedule and any other available data source (e.g. taxi GPS).

If preferred, users can create an account which will allow them to see their historical transit paths and methods of transportation.

Our solution also provides coupons and promotions from businesses and transportation options (e.g. train coupons) in the Central Station community to residents and visitors.

Our web application also allows for reporting of situations (congestions, accident, grattifi, delays) experience by residents and visitors at the Central Station. The reported issues will be forwarded to Ford company or the company operating Central Station for further investigation. Feedback can be provided back to the user through alerts on the web application.

Contact information (phone number) of Central station and related authorities (DDOT customer service, Amtrak customer service etc.) are provided to the residents and visitors on our application for inquiry and urgent help.

How will your solution benefit residents, workers, or visitors in the Michigan Central Station impact area? (1,000 characters)

The solution will help everyone by allowing them to see all transportation options available through an easily accessible, easy to understand graphical map interface. Users can use the solution to map out the best travel route for their purposes. The user simply needs to access the web app and click on an available option to see all relevant information (including how to pay for that option). Road information, such as accidents or congestion, is also shown to help the user determine the best possible route. Additionally, coupons will be sent out to promote local businesses to users (if the user is registered). No registration is required to use the web app.

We currently have a ATMS system in place that tracks road issues, vehicles, and more. For City:One we would augment our solution and fine tune it to the needs of the area. We've learned that municipalities and governments rely on this information to help them organize future work permits and keep on top of any issues that may pop up. Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

We will leverage the technology and system we currently have in place to customize the end product for the pilot. We will have to gather tracking information on all transportation modes available and implement them into our system. Once the web app has been created, we will promote adoption by people in the area. This will help us to test the software and improve it for all users.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

We would measure adoption rate through two metrics: site visits and registered users. This will allow us to fine tune the solution to the various user needs.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

The solution can be sustained through a subscription pay model with the city or Ford. Alternatively, promotional material can be shared for a fee.

Corey Dean Thank you for sharing this proposal! I am a Michigan Central Station facilitator. Many community members have expressed that public transportation is often unpredictable and difficult to navigate. This looks like a great solution to this issue. It looks like there will be a lot of features included in your solution: mobility options, news, events, emergency alerts, weather, MCS news, coupons, etc. Do you have specific features that you would focus on for the pilot, or would you hope to include all of these features at once? Would you implement the mobility services for all of Detroit, or only the transportation types that are near MCS? Thank you!

Mackenzie Fankell Thank you for your question Mackenzie! Our plan would be to integrate our web platform and its existing features, which are currently used by other cities and municipalities, to the Michigan Central Station location and incorporate all relevant data, with an initial focus on mobility options and road related information (road closures, accidents, etc.), then expand onto other features at a later stage. Our implementation in the proposal would be for the Michigan Central Station area, but our solution is capable of being expanded to all of the City of Detroit.
