FEV Mapping for Autonomous Driving Deployment

FEV plans to use existing LiDAR SLAM algorithms for environment mapping and to enhance localization by fusing LiDAR, GPS, Radar, and Camera sensor outputs. FEV’s collection vehicle will be the existing Smart Vehicle platform with the multi-sensors integrated. This project will produce a detailed mapping infrastructure for accurate mapping and localization to enable autonomous driving within the Corktown Neighborhood area. Mapping refers to the definition of critical objects for path planning including signage, defined lane marking and waypoint data. Path planning and the associated data are critical components to the deployment of self driving machines.

FEV’s provided mapping data will enable all developers in the self-driving space to deploy solutions in the Corktown neighborhood across multiple platforms. Autonomous mobility platforms will provide lower cost mobility solutions for ride sharing, handicap assessable commuting, and goods delivery. Lower cost mobility solutions will directly impact residents, workers, and visitors in the Michigan Central Station impact area by increasing access to affordable mobility.

$130,800 is the total budget which will include 1 full time student and, 1 full time senior engineering, and 1 junior engineer for the period of 3 months to map the Corktown neighborhood.

FEV plans to delploy our autonomous vehicle to test the fidelity of the maps generated.

Hi Trenton Busch thanks for submitting! I am in the facilitation team here. I want to clarify: are you proposing that your team provide the resources, coding, mapping, of AVs (but will need AVs to experiment with)? AVs will definitely help provide mobility to even more people gain access, but I would like to know how your team can work to address the MCS impact zone specifically for people and the opportunity areas?
