Our solution is making every commute affordable. And it addresses the #4 opportunity Area.

We all know the economical propositions of Electric vehicles against the combustion vehicles. But higher upfront costs remain as the downside to EV's. 

our idea

Our idea is to implement the conversion of conventional vehicles (Taxis/Logistics and private) into pure electric. 

The same can also be an approach to revive a lot of vintage and classic cars on public roads. That would prove as a concept to attract a lot of visitors finding excitement to see the vintage cars running around. 

Implementing it in the Michigan community can have the following impact:

Even if 80% of the vehicles can be converted into pure electric. There can be an Impact four-folds:

  1. Affordable- If the EV conversions can be implemented in ride-sharing and logistics services then the effective cost to the customer can be drastically brought down.
  2. Traffic congestion- Every car that is converted is another car being prevented adding to the roads. Which would ensure traffic congestions in the long run.
  3. Emission-free: This can be the most novel way to contain emissions in the long run.
  4. Revival of the vintage and classic cars with the EV conversion approach can also attract a wide number of visitors who would find fascination to see michigan roads with running vintage cars.

Electric vehicles are definitely the answer to many challenges the world is now facing. But we realize that the conversion of existing vehicles into pure electric can be the smartest way for faster adoption of Electric Vehicles. It will be a direct application of circular economy in the automotive industry.

How will your solution benefit residents, workers, or visitors in the Michigan Central Station impact area? (1,000 characters)

The solution will make the daily commute more affordable due to lower operational and lower upfront costs in converting the existing vehicles into pure electric. The mentioned stakeholders can enjoy the privileges of emission-free and noise-free surroundings alond with a considerably lower cost of services in ridesharing and logistics.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

We have done pilots with a wide range of logistics companies. We have sought certifications for the EV conversion kits for a range of vehicles- Hatchbacks, Sedans and LCVs. The impact has been incredible as the logistics fleets have spent considerably lot lesser in transforming their30% of fleet to pure electric. Resulting in lesser operational expense and emission-free deliveries.

Rough Budget (500 characters)

Our rough budget is approx $250,000. We want to localize the battery assembly for the EV conversion kits in Michigan. Doing so will help us in making the conversions even more affordable in the long run. Further, use the same in converting at least 15 sedans and LCV's. As a proof of concept in MICHIGAN Impact Area.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

During the pilot phase. We would retrofit and convert at least 15 sedans and LCVS as a proof of concept in Michigan We are an EV conversions start-up based out of India. We spent almost 3 years on the conversion technology. We could successfully get certifications from ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) and eventually emerged as India's first certified EV retrofitting company. Over time we have done our pilots with a lot of fleet operators in converting their existing fleet into pure electric. And we could successfully bring down their operational costs from ₹5/Km (Diesel) to ₹1/Km (After EV conversion). With all our internal resources in terms of expertise and technology. We would like to utilize the funds in localization of the EV conversions in Michigan to make the conversions more affordable while reducing the operational costs.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

We would measure our success by converting and achieving the operational savings of the fleet operators post electrification. And also the net emissions reduced will be a good benchmark.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

Yes. Our idea will be a sustainable post EV conversions. As a major part of the funding, we are seeking is for the localization of EV conversions. Which means post the successful implementation of the concept the conversion of vehicles into EVs will be more affordable.

Hi akbar baig thanks for submitting your proposal. I am part of the facilitation team at City:One. I do have some questions. Whose sedans would be used? What would the price range of EV conversion be? Could buses and vans be converted? Would public transit companies be able to use your services as well? Also, I would be interested in your breakdown of the budget. I suspect that it would cost more than $250,000 to assemble battery packs, let alone pay for the electrical harnesses, electric motors, and inverters.
