The Ecotuned® all-electric conversion system turns your light, medium and heavy-duty truck into a cleaner vehicle. By taking advantage of the longevity of the electric motor, Ecotuned patented technology is designed to be easily uninstalled and reused several times in a row in other similar vehicles. By saving each time the expensive renewal of a new vehicle and by eliminating the fuel cost, this ecological gesture allows substantial savings.  In addition, the 3R principle (reduce, reuse and recycle), so precious to our environment, is put into practice.

Ecotuned proposes to implement a carsharing service of electric Ford F-150 in the Impact area to offer an alternative way of transportation that is clean, efficient and economic. This allows residents, visitors and workers to move around and explore the area in an all new way. Doing so will inevitably involve setting up a network of conversion centers in the Impact area for the maintenance of vehicles in operation and conversion of additional vehicles in the future. This is a great added value for the economy of the Impact area.

How will your solution benefit residents, workers, or visitors in the Michigan Central Station impact area? (1,000 characters)

Ecotuned electric conversion technology is an additional way to quickly access electric vehicles. By implementing this solution, fleet managers have access to a new variety of models that are at the moment unavailable in the market of new vehicles. This will also open the path to new business opportunities in the surrounding area such as the establishement of electric vehicle conversion facilities creating highly skilled jobs and developing eletrification expertise for the residents and workers for the benefits of the whole region. Visitors will experience a unique kind of carsharing service in North America that in unknown to any other city. The Michigan Central station and the City of Detroit will be known for their leadership in clean transportation and will serve as an example for other organization.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

Ecotuned technology was developed since 2010. The technology has been successfully demonstrated in collaboration with several well-known customers in Canada, such as Hydro-Québec, MicroBird Girardin buses and City of Montreal. In January 2018, Ecotuned became the first company and is still the only one authorized by the Quebec Automobile Insurance Corporation to market electric light truck conversion technology. Ecotuned is now registered with Transport Canada to affix the National Safety Mark.

Tell us about your team or organization (500 characters)

Founded in 2010 in Montreal, Canada, Ecotuned specializes in the transformation of polluting fleet trucks whose manufacturer's warranty is expired into a clean electric vehicle. Ecotuned is the only company authorized by the Quebec Automobile Insurance Corporation to commercialize and install electric light truck conversion technology. Our team is composed of highly specialized engineers and technicians in the electric vehicle conversion field.

Rough Budget (500 characters)

A part of the budget will be used for the construction of demonstration vehicles that will be used during the pilot project. This proportion will represent almost half of the budget. The other half will be invested in setting up the project, in this case prospecting, commissioning of a carsharing service platfrom, finding partners and creation of training programs for the employees of future conversion centers. Ecotuned already has a partnership with a carsharing service company in Canada.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

First, we will begin by exploring the Impact Area in order to identify suitable locations for the installation of docking and recharging stations as well as potential accredited mechanical centers. Discussions with different owners of these garages will be initiated for a possible partnership. In parallel, the construction of a first demonstrator unit will begin. When the partners will be identified and the partnership agreements are concluded, we will train the employees of these to become conversion centers. The trainings will include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Ecotuned conversion system. As part of this pilot project, three vehicles will be built to define and measure the level of interest of different type of users. More vehicles may be converted if possible to increase the visibility of the projet.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

The success of the project will be measured by the interest of the customer and the general public. The vehicle occupancy rate will be monitored by a state-of-the-art telemetry system, and usage statistics will be compiled to better guide the project along the way. If any action is required to improve the benefits of the project, it will be implemented without delay to maximize the chances of success. The profitability of the project will also be closely monitored to quickly identify areas for improvement. The success of the project is also based on the profitability of all the partners. The interest of fleet owners for the technology will be measure by the traffic in the conversion centers. Partner garages, residents, workers, and visitors must earn a profit for the project to be successful.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

Revenues of the services will be accounted and used to set up a business plan throughout the project. It then will be presented to a carsharing service management company of the region to estabish a partnership and continue the activities that have been put in place. This partnership will ensure the management of the infrastructure and the sustainability of the service. But more importantly, the revenues must come from the conversion centers for maintenance services and the sales of technology.
