Accessible Mobility Connectors

Transporting passengers from their neighborhoods to bus stops, grocery and drug stores, doctors visits, providing them mobility connections

Accessible Mobility Connectors will transport the average passenger to and from their bus stop, especially in neighborhoods where the bus stop is four or more blocks away from their home and transport them to and from the grocery store, drugs store and their doctor’s office. Transport Kidz to and from their home our kidz hub, kidz care centers, and their schools. 

How will your solution benefit residents, workers, or visitors in the Michigan Central Station impact area? (1,000 characters)

Everyone that needs a ride for any reason. AMC will provide rides for passengers to and from the bus stops throughout the neighborhood, provide pre-arranged transportation to and from the grocery and drug stores for passengers. Create a VIP club for passengers traveling to and from the airport, conferences, hotels and places in close proximity to their hotel giving them discounts for frequent use of our service. Providing discounted rides for kidz to and from school, as well as a frequent rider program for all passengers.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

I have surveyed several SMART riders asking them if there was a shuttle that transported them to and from their neighborhood to the bus stop would they use it. They all said yes. I asked the passengers would they pay more for the additional safety measures 9 out 10 said yes. I asked passengers if they could use their SMART pass on a shuttle, would they? They all said yes, especially if it didn't cost more than their bus fare.

I feel it's important to recruit people from the community that you're serving so they are familiar with their neighbors and the area. I have fifteen potential drivers who have all driven for other companies and are familiar with the procedures. I have five current drivers who are willing to driver for AMC. I have Fifteen full time committed drivers and five part time committed drivers, i will alternate drivers during our pilot period to familiarize them with the passengers routes.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

Using the information from the community meetings, the challenge briefs and the city's demographical information reports. We have compiled a list of mobility issues that the AMCs will address during the pilot. The community's main concerns are: getting their children to their perspective schools daily; getting to the bus stop in time to catch the bus; and getting to work on time. AMC will solve their mobility challenges and more, by fulfilling all their transportation needs.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

Customer satisfaction and ridership will be our biggest measure of success. We will encourage our passengers to comment on various social mediums and offer incentives to them if they do. And we will use the data from questionnaires and surveys given to AMC passengers during the pilot period to determine which neighborhoods will use the shuttles more frequently and adjust the shuttle routes and hours to whenever serves those areas best. Customer feedback is crucial to our success

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

Our Service will address the transportation issues of the community. These services will be paid for by the passengers, and other community organizations, which will make it sustainable after the pilot period.

Hi Elizabeth Durden ! It is good to hear from you! Thank you for posting your proposal. As you know, we have heard a lot of community members mention that bus stops are sometimes few and far between! We have also heard that students need a lot of help getting between different after school activities. Have you thought about where and how you would want to start to pilot this idea?

Agreed with Mackenzie! Elizabeth Durden I see that you are still at the Initial design stage. Here are some questions that I though of to help you along the way: who specifically would you like to target for a pilot of the Mobility Connectors (mainly students, the elderly, people using public transit at regular intervals, or all of them)? Would each Mobility Connector be dedicated to driving people directly from bus stops to their homes/doctor's office/grocery store, or would there be set "drop-off corners"?

Hello Mackenzie, yes I am currently gathering data to get a better idea of where the shuttles will be needed. I am very passionate about children, seniors and individuals who have challenges. I do see a lot of others are interested in providing the same types of services. The community has a huge need for these services.
