Our mission is to bring GoKart Kids to Austin. Our solution supports and encourages families to stay healthy – mentally and physically! We serve families of all types and in all stages. Whether it be a working parent looking for a way to keep their child involved in activities when they are unable, or a family experiencing a difficult time, such as illness or disability, GoKart is able to provide peace of mind. Our service provides meaningful relief to parents and allows them to balance their professional and personal responsibilities while reducing stress. Our service enables kids to stay mentally and physically engaged as they can get to and from school, practice and other activities.

We are a privately owned business. In order to have the greatest impact on the Austin community, our goal would be to allocate a portion of ride profits toward scholarship. The scholarship would be set up by GoKart to provide free rides to kids in need. This would reach kids in low income or underprivileged households and enable them to pursue a passion of theirs, whether it be academic or activity based.

Last, we partner with local government to provide transportation for kids in foster care. GoKart would have the opportunity to form a relationship with the town of Austin and help their department of social services where they often need it most – transportation.

Describe who will use your solution (1,000 characters)

Our service is for families with kids ages 6-17. We offer employment to part-time workers, teachers, day care professionals, stay-at-home parents, empty nesters, students and more. We appeal to the government sector as we are an approved transportation vendor for kids in foster care. One of the largest issues in the department of social services, particularly in foster care programs, is transportation. Stability is critical for kids in foster care. Keeping kids in their base schools and involved in activities is key to their success. We alleviate the burden social workers carry by having to provide transportation. With GoKart providing transportation, social workers can spend more time helping the kids and less time worrying about how to get kids where they need to go. Our goal is to use a portion of revenues generated to provide a scholarship program for kids that need it. By doing so, we can help kids stay involved, regardless of other disparities.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

We learned from past experience that it’s essential to maintain a strong local foothold. Even as our company grows and expands geographically, we will have “boots on the ground”. We succeed because of the quality of our service. Parents need to be able to know us and trust us. The way to build that trust is through community. We are different from other ride-shares because we are more engaged with drivers and clients. Driver and customer relationships are vital to our success.

Stacy founded the company in 2016. Stacy had previous business experience as owner of a catering company in Las Vegas and a recruiter. After Stacy went back to work full time and as a single mother of three, she faced the challenges of getting her kids where they needed to go. When her son couldn't join his lacrosse team due to her schedule, she quit her job and pursued GoKart. Carly joined GoKart as Co-Founder and brought experience in technology, marketing, strategy and business development.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

We would pilot our idea by starting a small-scale launch to . We would set up in Austin and set aside resources specifically for the pilot period. We would bring on brand ambassadors to help us with our market research and user acquisition. We would implement a multi-pronged approach in which we: conduct market research, test various marketing ads and channels, construct an effective go-to-market strategy and implement based on our findings. For market research, we would speak with customers and drivers on the ground level. We would use a combination of our internal resources and program funding to support our pilot period. We would provide admin oversight during the pilot period. We would use funding for marketing and recruiting. We would run beta rides to demo our service and gauge public interest. We anticipate key discoveries to be found during the pilot period that will drive a successful market launch. For example, we may need different marketing approaches for various groups.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

We would establish benchmarks for the pilot period, including number of drivers, customers and revenue. With a successful pilot, we would: acquire over 200 early adopters of our service within one month, secure county contracts for working with DSS to provide transportation for foster kids, seek out 50 vetted drivers and have a deeper understanding and working knowledge of the market place. The goal of the pilot period is determine if Austin is a good fit for GoKart and how to most effectively target the area so that we can have a greater impact on the community. We would measure the response from the community, to ensure expectations are met and that we have achieved the desired impact on the community. We would also test our sponsorship program by running a beta and collecting feedback on how to partner with local schools, government and programs so that we can be a resource for kids in need.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

We are confident in GoKart’s ability to provide an ongoing and valuable service to the community. Once the pilot period ends and we are able to fully launch/scale, we will be able to generate sufficient revenues to support a local team, marketing, tech and business development. Our company has always remained cash-flow positive and we intend to replicate this model in other markets in order to be sustainable. As demonstrated from success in other regions, we aggressively, yet carefully, grow.
