Intellecy BluView: the Smart Water Management System with Leak Protection for homes new and old

Intellecy is developing a smart water management system that is composed of a whole-home static, non-intrusive sensor, smart water manager (hub) and a smart water valve controller. The system continually monitors for and measures all water flowing into the home. It provides homeowners real-time water use information and alerts the homeowner of the presence of water wasting events and leaks anywhere in the home via the app, text, email, and meter. 

The user is able to set water conservation goals and track their progress monthly, weekly, daily and even by the hour of the day. This will enable them to save water and lower their bill.

The system also provides whole home water leak protection. It continually monitors the entire home’s plumbing for leaks, notifies the user early and using the valve controller, the user can shut off the water from anywhere to prevent extensive water damage.

Describe who will use your solution (1,000 characters)

Homeowners using our product can manage their water use. Current user experience has homeowners relying on a bill with limited detail that is delivered too late to affect change in use behavior. Having access to realtime usage data enables the user to see how much water they are using as they are using it. Using the systems conservations tools the user will be alerted when they are approaching their daily goal so they can try to minimize their use. The system also displays high use events so the user can see that some behaviors waste a lot of water. The leak protection capabilities enables teh user to know of a low flow water event with a long duration which indicates a small hidden leak that could cause mold or can grow to a larger leak. The system can also detect a surge in water flow which means a pipe burst. Leaks of this kind occur when water in not in use and pressure build and stresses the plumbing. The user is alerted on their smart phone and can remotely shut off their water

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

Our previous tests have enabled us to learn from prospective users. The biggest insight was that users were more interested in information rather than data. The display of how much water is used was not as beneficial as information that water use identifies a wasteful habit or abnormally high water use. We were able to focus on displays that showed conservation and savings were taking place. See image attached to solution description.

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

We will recruit a representative sample of our target market to test and provide detailed feedback on their experience and the perceived benefits. The respondents to our pilot study will be from our target market defined as homeowners who are using smart technology and whose mindset falls under one of the following: 1) concern for water conservation, OR 2)concern for high/rising water bills, OR 3) concerned with protecting their homes from extensive water leak damage, OR 4) a combination of these. Functioning prototypes will be installed in the homes of these pilot sites with no restriction on usability. We will remotely monitor their usage patterns to ensure the respondent is actually using the system. Interviews will be conducted to obtain an understanding of potential new features and how well the system addressed their initial concern of water conservation, high bills or leak damage. The responses will be used to improve the product's capabilities and develop marketing materials.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

The measure of success for our pilot will be based on several objectives. One objective will be did we properly address the concern of our previously identified target market with our solution. Did the benefits perceived by using the system match the benefits we wanted to resonate with our target markets. Do the respondents have a favorable perception of the system? We intend to have the respondents state a willingness to purchase our system. And most importantly, will these respondents have a favorable impression on the system that they would recommend to their inner circle of friends and family.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

Our plan after the pilot is to make any "must have" capabilities added. We also will have the foundation for going to production. We could take preorders ie having customers prepay for the units at a discounted price. The discount is needed to motivate them to prepay. We currently have a list of almost 300 vetted prospective buyers and several investors that were organically captured by us or referred to us. Thus we consider this list to be a good foundation to commercialize.
