We can aid in connecting people in outlying neighborhoods to various hubs in a safer way.  Without feeling safe, if hinders the choice to travel more affordably around the city. AutoGuardian creates "intelligent lanes" to increase situational awareness for motorists and cyclists. Increased visibility allows for increased awareness. Intersections are the most vulnerable points for cyclists, even protected bike lanes do not carry through an intersection. AutoGuardian places high visibility torches evenly spaced leading up on either side of the intersection which light up when the cyclists pass through the monitored zone. Flashing lights can also be placed on existing signage i.e."Yield to cyclists" which helps to alert the motorist to an oncoming cyclist they may not see.

Any community resident looking for a more affordable way to commute to work, the store, to nearby friends and family can feel safer and more protected with our infrastructure. Many residents are too far from initial transit routes as well, being able to ride their bike can connect them easier to additional transportation options.

Insights from previous testing (500 characters)

We piloted our bike lane solution in partnership with Safer Roads Ottawa at a busy unsignaled intersection that sees many commuters cross through a bike lane. Not only did it help to add segregation making citizens feel safer than just a painted line but the flashing lights reduced the speed in which vehicles traveled through the area. We learned valuable insight as well and have improved our torches for even more durablility and visibility

Our mission is simple: we want to help cities achieve Vision Zero. Our parent company, SmartCone Technologies has been researching and developing IoT (Internet of Things) technologies to make safety more intelligent, cost-effective, adaptable, scalable, and mobile since 2011. Roughly the budget will be appropriated as follows: 1) Remote and On site surveys of bike lane infrastructure and review 2) Work with the city to classify/verify intersection pain points 3) Survey residents for intersection pain points 4)Build equipment 5) Hire a local contractor to install 6) Remote configuration and support

Describe how you would pilot your idea (1000 characters)

We would take the time to survey residents and speak with local biking coalitions to learn more about where the infrastructure can be put in place to best help citizens navigate and connect to various hubs throughout the city. We would work with city officials to understand their current limitations in bringing intelligent infrastructure to various areas and better understand their pain points.

Describe how you would measure the success of your pilot (1000 characters)

TheSmartCone platform collects various data measures, we would utilize the car counting and average speed of vehicles as they cross through the bike lanes when the light is and is not flashing. We would also count the number of cyclists to see if there was an increase in bike lane usage and do a post-survey of the communities to see their perception of the added intelligent infrastructure. With this data, we will do a final report to see how the infrastructure impacted the areas. This would help determine any changes needed to provide an improved solution offering in the future.

Sustainability Plan (500 characters)

Yes, the solution is already repeatable and many cities have shown interest. Not only can we track cyclists, but we offer an autonomous shuttle solution, tracking the AVs as they move through their route and alerting pedestrians to their presence, we have just been chosen to bring this to NAIAS 2020. Also, cities can subscribe to data streams to learn about the traffic, flow, the number of pedestrians, cars, and cyclists traveling through the area., the temperature, and emissions, etc.
