A simple idea to reduce traffic congestion: lower or eliminate some of the bus fares. Austin city government claims to care about affordability. Lowering fares would help everyone and especially lower income folks. The cost to the city would be minimal and would get more people on buses, helping everyone on the road. I see buses all the time that are 90% empty. There is precedent for this. The Armadillo bus and UT student buses used to be free.

I second that. Personally, I'd prefer the safety and efficiency of public transit, only with the bus system as it is now, walking / biking / driving is almost always faster and cheaper for me.
